Barbarian: Mini Review

Sep 8 2022

I’m going to keep this one very short and sweet because if horror/mystery is your thing, then you’re going to want to watch this movie without knowing too much or even viewing a single trailer. Basically, a young woman goes to a creepy Airbnb house in the middle of nowhere to find that the place is occupied by a random guy. She decides to stay at the house and then things get utterly fucked up as terrifying discoveries are made of the house. There are very few actors in this film, and they all do a very good job whether it’s Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, or the scenery chewing Justin Long. Justin Long especially is a ton of fun, playing this washed up actor dealing with the defamation of his character and career downfall. Director Zach Cregger does a fantastic job creating a setting that feels like a character in and of itself. The eerie sound design and impeccable camera movement/lighting made the house come alive and give depth to the frighteningly long and narrow hallways. There are definitely a few moments of characters making dumb decisions like going into a dark and scary room or losing something in a convenient way, but at least the movie had entertaining enough characters to perform those cliché horror movie tropes. There are crazy twists and turns along the way that took me by surprise and made for more than a few WTF moments. You will see some of the most disturbing imagery possibly in your entire life and all of the extreme graphic violence pays off. I think horror buffs are going to absolutely love this movie and casual moviegoers will also be sucked in to the atmosphere and tension of what may very well be one of the scariest films I’ve seen in a hot minute. #barbarian#barbarianmovie
