HALLOWEEN ENDS 🔪🩸🎃 mini review:

44 years after the deadly events of the original Halloween movie, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode face off one last time… except, that’s not really the plot of this film. The IMDb synopsis of this movie along with the trailers are so misleading, and not for the better. Look, I am a big fan of the Halloween franchise, and even have a soft spot for some of the shittier sequels. I can say with full confidence that Halloween Ends is absolutely dreadful and in serious debate for the worst entry in the entire saga. We are introduced to these new teenage characters who take up the majority of the screen time and they’re so uninteresting and laughably dumb. This one character specifically overshadows Michael Myers himself and this really pissed me off. Michael is hardly in the movie and the main storyline feels so detached, it’s almost like one of the Scream sequels. There is no suspense at all, no urgency to anything, no exciting conflict, and no real tension. The direction that is taken with Michael here is a slap in the face to fans, a genuine insult, as he no longer has the menace he did in previous installments. Jamie Lee Curtis commits all she can to her final outing as Laurie Strode, but is let down by terrible writing and a frustratingly bizarre story. One of the greatest mistakes of this particular trilogy is the wrongful retconning of the original sequels, which had some of the best lore. Only using the ‘78 Halloween film as canon limited the creative and storytelling potential of these newer entries. Even Michael’s kills are underwhelming, tame, and pedestrian, which alone makes this irredeemable. Overall, Halloween Ends sends the iconic horror film franchise out with a disappointing whimper, one that will hopefully live up to its title and END.
