Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey šŸ©øšŸÆ mini review:

While the first 15 or so minutes are a strong set up with some hilarious changes to the lore of Winnie the Pooh, what follows is nothing more than a standard slasher affair with boring lead characters, half cooked ideas, and too thin a premise to warrant an inside joke turned into a 90 minute feature length flick. There are some bright spots to be sure, with the opening scene setting up an intriguing dark spin on these iconic childrenā€™s fables. The kills are some of the meanest and goriest Iā€™ve seen in a while with an impressive amount of practical effects and makeup to boot. It has a pretty ominous soundtrack that does a fabulous job setting up the atmosphere and mood. I also will say the ā€œfinal battleā€ was quite hilarious and had some of the self referential humor the rest of the movie was missing. The problem is how this movie takes itself far too seriously and doesnā€™t allow enough time to establish a consistent tone. Another frustrating aspect as stated before is how the film sets up this interesting new lore for the Pooh gang and Christopher Robin, but never really delves deep enough into it and instead is substituted with your typical dumb young adults getting slashed for the bulk of the duration. Itā€™s funny seeing Piglet and Pooh run around terrorizing these young adults, but that novelty only lasts so long. I think the filmmakers missed the opportunity to turn this into a real cult horror classic, and one of those missed opportunities was the fact that Pooh and Piglet have next to no lines of dialogue. In the end, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey overstays its welcome and squanders its potential in a mildly amusing 90 minutes that could have heavily benefited from not taking itself far too seriously and using its bonkers premise to its advantage rather as opposed to following the standard slasher formula. For hardcore horror fans ONLY.
