YOUNG JUSTICE (Seasons 1 and 2) mini review:

With Young Justice season 1 and 2, DC continues to prove its most effective, well fleshed out, and multi-layered content lies within their animation department. Bringing together various youthful sidekicks of Justice League members, season one of Young Justice successfully gives meaningful arcs to Superboy, Miss Martian, and Artemis. This version of Wally West (Kid Flash) is terrific serving up a lot of humor and heart. I loved Aqualad, and especially his surprising role in season 2, as it created lots of tension between certain key characters. Dick Grayson here is very well used and I appreciate that season gives us time with him as Robin before he ultimately takes up the mantle of Nightwing. Vandal Savage, Lex Luthor, and Ra’s al Ghul lead the evil villain cabal known as The Light. The way that their diabolical plans progress during the show kept me on my toes and the different revelations that happen particularly during season 2 most definitely pay off on the promise of its elaborate set up. Impulse and Blue Beatle have a great friendship dynamic, and I admittedly was taken back by the direction for Blue Beatle in the latter half of season 2. Yes, this is a show primarily about a group of teenagers but it handles things like love triangles and inner team drama in such a natural and charming way that it is never cringe or redundant. It’s really hard to not talk in detail about the show without delving into spoiler territory, but seeing as how this was a series I hadn’t seen until these past couple weeks, I want to think that other DC fans who also haven’t seen it will give it the same shot I did, and end up loving it. There are moments in the season 2 finale that brought me to tears and had me in awe of the care put in to a superhero extravaganza series rivaling only that of Bruce Timm’s untouchable DCAU. Young Justice seasons 1 and 2 are a reminder of the complex and emotional cathartic resonance that both DC animation and film have and can have for their fans. #youngjustice
